Dreams and dream groups
In working with our dreams, we might ask ourselves, how much is my personal myth or storey inextricably woven into the fabric of my dreams? What new possibilities might become clearer to me, when I bring a dream into my waking life? My mission is to bring back understanding dreams into the consciousness of everyday people as a means of developing self-understanding, insight and meaning.
The approach we take to working with your dreams will depend on what fits for you, but it is important to note that I do not interpret your dreams for you. You are the expert, and only you can apply meaning to your dream world.
History of dream interpretation
Historically, dreams have carried deep significance across cultures around the world for many thousands of years. In Greek mythology, Morpheus, the son of Zeus, was the god of dreams. References to dreams can be found in the writings of Plato, Hippocrates and Aristotle. Egyptian hieroglyphs carry references to dream symbols dating back to 2000BC. The Chinese Taoist tradition teaches of the spiritual significance of dreams as represented in the i-Ching. The Christian Bible makes references to dreams, as does the Hindu Bhagavad-Gita, the Islamic Koran, The Egyptian Book of the dead, The Jewish Torah and the Buddhist Tripitaka. Maori culture and native American cultures pay tribute to their dreams. A myriad of artists, scientists, inventors and the like, cite their dreams as points of reference and inspiration, and Australian Aboriginal cultures refer to the ‘Dreamtime’ as the creation of the world.
Might our literal and contemporary Dreamtime be a means of recreating our own personal worlds as we sleep?
